When
Chronic Illness Strikes! Coping with chronic illness is one
of the greatest challenges many people have to face.
The effect is not usually a one person affair, but is shared
by those close to the one with the long term . illness.
Most often every member of the family is affected whether
they recognize it or not. Major adjusments probably
have to be made to assist. the loved one. Not only do family
members have to learn new skills, but must also
adjust their attitudes, emotions, life-styles, and routines.
So how can others outside the family help? By
being available Some people may refrain from visiting
because they feel they do not know what to say and others
may be imposing. While being sensitive to the families need
for privacy, be available to help where needed.
Assisting with transportation or or food and other day to
day necessities may be appreciated. The right kind of support
can do much to help families cope with the stress of chronic
illness. The Bible puts it this way: "A friend is a
loving companion at all times, and a brother is born to
share troubles." -Proverbs 17:17
